A few months ago, Cara (whose wedding I photographed last May) mentioned to me what a hard time her friend Emily was having finding a photographer in NYC (where she lives) for her wedding taking place in Newport, Rhode Island. Lets just say New York photographers are a little on the pricey side – booking a full package with me and paying our travel & accommodations was still a better deal!!
My hubby came along with me and we decided to make a bit of a vacation out of the trip. One of our favorite things to do when we travel to different cities is to go to concerts. We were sooo excited to find a great show in Portland, Maine on Sunday night…. we left early Sunday morning and made it in time to see Buck 65 (one of my favorite perfomers) and Sage Francis, one of my hubby’s faves. We spent Monday morning exploring Portland and had an amazing lunch overlooking the ocean (lobster and blueberry beer!) before we headed to Rhode Island.
Tuesday morning we drove to Newport, a beautiful town about 45 minutes from Providence (where we stayed Monday night). Newport is a beautiful town on the ocean with cobblestone streets, countless bed & breakfasts and incredible victorian mansions. I met the bride and groom at the bed and breakfast they were staying at. We did a few “getting ready” photos and then they saw each other for the first time. We then boarded a Trolley to Blithewold, the estate where the wedding was taking place.
Blithewold was absolutely breathtaking – right out of a movie!! The entire event was amazing and I’m so happy that I got to be a part of it!! I was surprised to find out that Emily and Jack haven’t even been together for a year – these two are SO in love with each other, meant to be without a doubt!
Another thing that made this wedding so special on a personal note – for the first time, my hubby acted as my assistant … he did an AMAZING job!! I hope to bring him to a few more next year – when Jack’s mom sent me a list of her favorites a good 25% of them were ones that Eric took (he’s still gloating about it!)
After the wedding, we drove back to Providence – did some shopping Wednesday afternoon (no tax meant 6 pairs of shoes and 3 pairs of jeans were completely justifiable) and then headed to Boston where we spent Wednesday & Thursday. We saw a baseball game at Fenway Park had some great meals and did lots of exploring. Friday morning we headed back to London and I was onto another wedding Saturday afternoon!! Yes, I have a bit of a whirlwind life sometime but I love it and can’t complain at all!!

I believe this is the exact moment Emily realized it was her wedding day!!
Jack sees his bride for the first time
My hubby took this shot of Emily & Jack seeing each other for the first time!
The groom’s grandfather, father, groom and newphew were all sitting together (with gramma, mother of the bride and bride in the background) – I thought it was a great “generations” shot.
Emily and Jack snuck in some private time on the trolley
I love the expression on Emily’s face as we arrived at Blithewold
Emily’s gramma’s reaction was too cute!
Another great shot from my hubby!
The ceremony was very emotional and Jack was in tears for most of it – adorable!!
We walked down to the ocean and did some of their portraits on an old, shell covered pier
