When my friend John told me he was going to propose to his girlfriend Bianca, the first thing I thought was “photo opportunity!” John thought it was a good idea, but had other plans to propose to her on vacation or at a concert, on stage. When those plans didn’t pan out, I was so excited to hear from John a couple of months later saying that maybe the photo idea would work out after all….
We went back and forth trying to figure out how we were going to arrange it and finally decided that the best thing might be to actually do a photo shoot and that he’d propose during it. We told Bianca I had a new lens that I wanted to try out and started off with some silly photos of them tobogganing, with a snowman, etc. When I had the right location picked, the cue was to tell John I wanted to do a nice landscape shot. I stepped back and put my longest lens on and then told John to “do something crazy!” I held the camera up and just shot away – I’m sure shaking almost as much as he was! Afterwards we did a quick little engagement shoot – it’s amazing what a difference a big diamond on your finger can do for your smile!
It was such an honour to be a part of such a special moment in their lives! John told me originally he thought maybe 2010 would be their wedding year… I wasn’t surprised to get an email just a few days after the proposal telling me December 2008 was their month and that Bianca had already bought her dress!! I can’t wait to photograph their wedding on December 13th. Congrats again guys!!
