Having a beautiful wedding at the family cottage? A million times YES! What a gorgeous setting for an outdoor ceremony. I love the portraits we captured just before sunset down by the lake. My quads still remember the steep hike back up the property for the reception too!

Melissa + Kevin
{Dan Patterson Conservation Area St. Thomas Ontario Wedding Photography}

This was my first time photographing at the beautiful grounds of Pond Valley Manor. What a gorgeous venue! Melissa & Kevin had the most perfect day: amazing weather paired with an amazing view at their venue! Everything about this day was great, even running into some mutual friends that we didn't know we had! The couple put so much hard work into the details and decor of their wedding and it sure paid off. Kevin made that beautiful LOVE sign featured in their reception, which made a great backdrop for their sweatheart table. I love that we got to sneak out a magic hour to capture some glowy sunkissed images! Congrats to Melissa & Kevin, we had such a great time capturing your day!

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less: Rustic, vintage, DIY, floral wedding

What are your favorite memories of your wedding day?
Bride: walking back down the aisle with my new husband! And seeing our family and friends enjoying the small details that we worked on together.
Groom: At the First Look, turning around to see Mel for the first time. And the vows with my bride, I couldn't take my eyes off her.

Best wedding related decision: the venue, it was completely customizable and gorgeous. It was also a lot of work, so the second best decision was the wedding coordinator!

Favourite detail: the giant "Love" marquee letters, Kevin made them himself and they were the perfect backdrop.

Advice for future brides & grooms: for other DIY brides and grooms, plan and do as much as possible as far in advance as possible. And don't leave seating charts and place cards until the day before!
The last month sneaks up fast, though in the end everything comes together and is totally worth all the work!

Would you change anything if you could do it all over again? No, it was perfect, exactly as we had envisioned.

Best surprise of the day: Feeling all the love! We've heard people say their wedding is the best day but we didn't really believe it until our wedding day. It definitely was the best day of our lives so far, surrounded by love and laughter, having so much fun with our favourite people in the world!

Anything else you'd like to add:
DIY weddings are so much work, but we had lots of support from our families and also help from some experts. We spent months working together and while it was sometimes challenging, it was worth it to have a perfect day that reflected us as a couple, and to be able to share that with each other and with our friends and family.

Robin + Julie
{Le Belvedere Wakefield Quebec Wedding Photography}

Where to even begin? This was such a special wedding to photograph!!! Robin's sister Cheryl and I used to work together at Black's Photography, and 15 years ago Cheryl & Wayne's wedding was the FIRST wedding I ever photographed!!! Fast forward 15 years, Robin reached out to me to see if I'd be available to photograph her and Julie's wedding in the mountains of Gatineau Quebec!! Two super in love brides on a mountain top - I knew I had to make this work!!! We planned a family road trip around their big day, and as luck would have it Lindsay was able to meet up with me in Gatineau to be my second shooter for the day! We loved every second of this amazing celebration - from the anticipation of the two brides getting ready around the corner from each other and a quick hand squeeze before the official "first look". Julie's mom giving her an emotional blessing before the ceremony. The tearful vows, Robin an anglophone, recited hers in french to her francophone wife. The joyful cheers from the supportive audience as they were pronounced a married couple and the palpatable feeling of love and inclusiveness as everyone danced together during the first dances! It was a perfect day from start to finish and we are so honoured that we got to be a part of it!!!

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less: An elegant day in nature

What are you favorite memories of your wedding day?
Bride Robin: meeting Julie at the top of the aisle and walking together. That moment when we first held hands.
Bride Julie: When Robin said a portion of her vows in French. It was a special surprise, and it was beautiful.

Best wedding related decision: Le Belvedere for venue......100%.

Favourite detail: There are so many, but the reveal of the weddings dresses was special. The whole process of dressing without seeing and then the actual moment of turning around to see each other was so memorable, and well orchestrated by our team of photographers!

Advice for future brides & grooms: Keep some things secret, just between the two of you. Some of our close family knew a few details, but nobody except us knew everything. It made it special for us and for our guests,

Would you change anything if you could do it all over again? No changes – it really was perfect. Only wish it didn’t go by so quickly.

Best surprise of the day: Our marriage officiant asking our guests to bless our rings in whatever religion or spiritual belief was their own.

Anything else you'd like to add: We loved the process of planning our first dance and taking lessons. It was choreographed by our ball room instructor so it was spectacular. We had so much fun practicing together in the months ahead of our wedding. This too, was a surprise to our guests. Only 2 people knew that we had taken lessons.

The love between these two is so adorable to witness - they are such a happy couple & grateful people to work with! Their first look was just the cutest, with kleenex handy for them both, because both of them knew they would not only cry, but giggle amidst their tears as well! This day was filled with complete happiness, all the smiles and this happy vibe was there all day with their wedding party and their familes. I'm looking forward to working with them again in the future!

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less: Casual Backyard Fun

What are you favorite memories of your wedding day?
Bride: Having all of our loved ones together
Groom: Seeing my wife for the first time

Best wedding related decision: Renting a tent!

Advice for future brides & grooms: The day goes by so quickly, make sure to relax and enjoy it. Even if something goes wrong, the guests won't notice. Also, bring tissues!

Would you change anything if you could do it all over again? Not a thing.

Best surprise of the day: My husband's surprise speech

Anything else you'd like to add: Niki was so awesome to work with! She made our day fun and extra special.
