Carlie & Kevin had the most perfect wedding day – Oakwood Resort is definitely one of our favorite venues! This magical getaway has the feel of a destination resort, without being too far from home! The couple and their wedding party got ready in the cottage suites, had a gorgeous outdoor ceremony and then we booted around on some golf courts for amazing beach photos!

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less: Natural, rustic, whimsical, greenery, and last but not least LOVE
What are you favorite memories of your wedding day?
Bride: Doing our intro dance into the reception to “Love Train” and being surrounded by our wedding party at the end dancing around us. I was overwhelmed with the overflowing love & excitement from all of them!
Groom: Watching Carlie walk down to meet me for our ceremony and hearing all the love from our family and friends during the speeches
Best wedding related decision: We decided to have it on a long weekend in a location where we didn’t have to leave for anything. We had our rehearsal, morning of getting ready, ceremony, dinner, and party all in the same place! This simplified things for us which helped reduce stress and our family & friends made a weekend out of it!
Favourite detail: We spent a lot of time choosing (and changing!) the songs we played during our ceremony, cocktail hour, reception entrance songs, and our first dance song. The way it all came together made all the time and work we put in, worth it! Music is so important to us both and we wanted that to be our special touch for our wedding. Our DJ Jay Scott was awesome to work with and understood our vision for a variety of 60-70s classics as well as dance anthems and country.
Advice for future brides & grooms: Stay true to what is truly you guys. It’s easy to get overwhelmed by options and be swayed into things that aren’t actually you. Don’t be afraid to say no if you need to. Ask for or describe what it is that you want!
Would you change anything if you could do it all over again? Nope! Little things are going to happen that you didn’t plan but those things are out of your control… Go with the flow as much as you can on your wedding day!
Best surprise of the day: Kevin surprised me with sweet cards and treats throughout the day while my bridesmaids and I were getting ready. The last card was a poem with 6 shots of whiskey to go with it. My bridesmaids and I enjoyed having a shot to ease the nerves before we each walked into the ceremony!
Anything else you’d like to add: We we’re so lucky to work with amazing vendors. Our photographer Heather kept our wedding party and family on track with our timelines plus took terrific photos! Our decorator Lorraine went above & beyond with everything she did for us. Our officiant Barb made us feel at ease during our ceremony with her confidence and experience.
