Kate & Chuck

London Ontario Wedding

What a treat to be a part of my friend’s wedding day! Kate and Chuck have been engaged for awhile and going back and forth about what to do for their big day… when I got an email just 3 weeks before asking if I was available for an impromptu “shotgun” ceremony my answer was a big YES! I loved everything about this day… and am delighted that we were able to get these magical snowy photos (even though Kate and I promised our husbands my camera would go away at a certain point and I won’t say how many glasses of wine I’d had by then!!)

Describe the vision/theme you had for your wedding in 5 words or less:
Planned.
In.
Three.
Weeks.
Shotgun!

What are you favorite memories of your wedding day?
Cracking up in the middle of the ceremony.  As Chuck started his vows, something about the wording just struck us both as hilarious.  Before we knew it we were both giggling and then the whole room joined in.  It was silly and fun: kind of like us.

Best wedding related decision:
1- Asking Heather to be a part of our day, the pictures perfectly captured our story.
2- Having our wedding dinner at the Early Bird with just the four of us.  It felt like a normal family dinner, except we were all dressed fancy!

Favourite detail:
1- The turquoise bolero jacket and feather in my hair: under $15.00 for both!
2- The Pop Shoppe Pop favours and the typewriter guestbook: two really simple (and inexpensive) ideas

Advice for future brides & grooms:
You do not have to spend thousands of dollars to create a day that is special and romantic. The day goes by in a blur. Concentrate on the success of your marriage, not the success of your wedding.

Would you change anything if you could do it all over again?
We both wish that we had broken the rules on how many guests City Hall allowed at a civil ceremony.
We both have large families and we ended up having to pick and choose between our siblings.  It was sad to not have everyone there.
If we could do it again, we would just show up with everyone like rebels!

Best surprise of the day:
The Snow! Just before Heather left for the evening, huge snowflakes began to fall.  We had “wished” for photographs in the snow, but had no luck until after midnight.  Always ready, Heather grabbed her camera and we all ran outside.  These shots ended up being the best of the whole day!

Favorite HRM picture from the day (and why?): THREE
1- The shot outside of The Early Bird, looking in at the four of us having our first dinner together as a family. We love the artistic quality, how it looks kind of retro, but also that it’s taken from outside. It shows us taking time to be alone with the boys, even on such a busy day, and that was so important to both of us.

2- The shot of Chuck lifting me in the snow, traffic behind us: it looks like a movie poster (first shot above)

3- The picture of Kate standing alone in the snow looking up at the sky: this is my “happy moment”

My husband and I joined the party later as guests…. and I just happened to match the bride! Haha!
